What you will be doing
A Chief Estimator plays a crucial role in managing the estimating team and ensuring accurate cost assessments for construction projects.
Core Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the estimating team - Provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to ensure high-quality estimates that meet project deadlines and budget constraints.
- Develop standardized estimating procedures - Establish and maintain robust estimating processes for consistency and accuracy.
- Oversee the estimating process for all projects - Manage the complete estimating lifecycle, from pre-construction services to final bid preparation.
- Analyze project plans and specifications - Conduct thorough reviews to ensure a complete understanding of scope and requirements.
- Prepare detailed and accurate estimates - Develop comprehensive estimates considering materials, labor, equipment, subcontractors, and contingencies.
- Identify and manage project risks - Assess potential risks and develop strategies to mitigate cost and schedule impacts.
- Maintain historical cost data - Oversee a cost database to improve forecasting accuracy.
- Utilize estimating software - Perform quantity takeoffs, generate cost breakdowns, and create professional bid packages.
- Collaborate with internal teams - Work closely with project managers, architects, engineers, and stakeholders to align estimates with project goals.
- Stay updated on industry trends - Continuously improve estimating practices by staying informed on construction methods and cost trends.
- Present estimates to clients - Clearly articulate complex estimates to clients, fostering trust and confidence.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (preferred).
- Minimum of 10+ years of experience in construction estimating.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Proficiency in estimating software and cost analysis tools.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to analyze and interpret complex project documents.
